SOBER COMPANIONSHIP

A sober companion is a personal advocate, hired to assist a person new in their recovery to navigate difficult personal, professional or social situations.

Traditionally, sober companions are hired to discretely accompany those in early sobriety to an event or function (weddings, business trips, family reunions, etc.) that may be environmentally or emotionally triggering, potentially leading to relapse.  This additional support provides accountability for the individual and an understanding confidant with which to process any issues that arise.

“Prehab” services utilize a sober companion to facilitate a comfortable and preparatory transition period leading up to admittance into the client’s chosen rehabilitation facility (see “Prehab” for further information on this service).

“Post-hab” can be helpful for an individual after completion of inpatient treatment. Similarly structured to “prehab”, post-hab gives the individual time to process what they have learned and solidify any supports they may need to set up prior to going home.

Post-hab services can also incorporate the individual and their family for a 10-day “reunification” period that focuses on therapeutic integration, setting up boundaries and outlining expectations. (see “Post-hab” for further information on this service).

A companion can also be particularly helpful in establishing a healthy new routine at home after leaving the safety and structure of a residential treatment facility (see “Readjustment Support” for further information on this service).

A sober companion can assist with transit support via air travel, or car service from point A to point B (see “Transport Services for further information on this service).
